OIL CANVAS

Oil painting is the art process of applying a medium of oil and pigment to the painting surface which could be anything from paper, board or canvas. The oil is typically a drying oil such as linseed oil but could also be other oils such as safflower or walnut oils. These oils can be used to develop a varnish finish by boiling them with a resin to develop a gloss or sheen finish to the painting. This technique is different to acrylic technique
The main medium for thinner application here is mineral; turpentine
This art technique was used in ancient times but was only resurrected in the 15thC in the Middle ages when this technique became the main one for artistic expression especially during the Renaissance period
Painting in oil is done in various styles the first one being that of Realism.
Here the artist paints in what many regard as real expression trying to show the view that world the "way it is" view using his skill of  colour and tone and illusion to get texture and true perspective and true depiction of lighting
In Photo-realism we have the extension of realism to depict reality as it really is by greater clarification and less distortion to the objects or scene enhancing this by paying great attention to the smaller details and feature. Nothing is too small or insignificant to be left out . This has the final effect of the scene as having Super Clarity. Other terms used here are, Super Realism or Hyper Realism
Abstraction paints the essential core of the object or scene. It tries to get the essential core or outline as determined by the painter and does not try to depict its true realism as discussed above. In a way the painter is trying to be more intellectual or emotional here by trying to evoke another dimension to feel/see" the scenario
On the other hand "Abstract" art does not try to connect with any reality at all generally but is using the expression of the technique of painting and the qualities of the medium the are using
Here the of the style of painting to be more open ended as to how the final result may or may not turn out.
It is more explorative and open ended
Impressionism was developed i the 19th century and became and still is a very important painting style though it was greatly resisted and even considered vulgar when first introduced
